Dr. Walter Kilner, in the early 1900's, proclaimed when looking through a glass coated with dicyanin dye he could see a glowing, colorful, pulsating mist of internal and external energy fields around the body in three specific zones; a ¼ inch layer closest to the body, a 1 inch wide more vaporous layer streaming perpendicular from the body, and a luminous exterior about 6 inches wide. He later began using specially treated chemical screens to study this phenomena. Kilner believed that each color symbolized a specific personal characteristic, health, emotional factor or mood a person is in. He designed a color chart specifically to diagram what he believed each color indicated, however, the definitive meanings are still subject to speculation.
Otto Rahn, in 1936, discovered under certain conditions, that the ultra-violet energy released by humans was visible. He also found the cornea of the human eye to be the strongest source of light.
The most validating proof of the aura, however, came with the accidental discovery by Semyon Davidovich Kirlian in 1939. He found that when a film plate was placed between an electrode and a human subject, the subjects energy radiations could be photographed. The original system photographed static images of fingers or leaves. Later, Kirlian developed a special optical instrument to view the motion of the aura. The results allowed the viewer to see the hand as either flashing, sparkling, steadily glowing, or as diminishing particles of light. Kirlian also showed the difference in the aura of a human being harboring a disease that had not yet manifested symptoms. Present-day Kirlian photographers use 75,000-200,000 electrical oscillations per second from high frequency electrical field lamps to produce the aura images they study.
