My family had ghostly experiences back in the early 1920's while living in an old farmhouse on Blue River, just outside of Tishomingo, Johnston, Oklahoma.
They experienced groaning while plowing the fields, they heard sounds inside the house and under the floorboards. They heard horses, tack and men laughing at one time - they thought the men were back from hunting. They went outside and found nothing - the men had not returned. They saw "ghost lights" go up and down the road to the house, convinced it was long dead robbers from devils den showing them where the "loot" was buried - they dug holes all over the yard of the house - they found nothing. This story has been passed down in my family to every generation since 1921.
Since then, I too have experienced "ghosts" odd sounds, heard my name called when no one is there, even my dog has seen something that cannot be seen by the naked eye. I don't know why some of us can see these things and others not but it is real whatever it is.
Another story from the same time frame same house on Blue River (Tishomingo, Johnston Co, OK) in the early 1920's, my grandfather would plow the field and hear moaning following him (in broad daylight even!) at this same house. There is a funny story how my grandmother snuck up on him as he plowed one day and scared the bejeevers out of him! She did not believe it at first then she became a believer.
My grandfather's sister and her family also lived in the house (at the same time) her son, named Tommy Presley was badly burned in an accident, he suffered three days and died (approx 1925) his hair was cut very short. Although he was bedridden, his mother was awoken in the middle of the night - she thought he got in bed with her, she rubbed her hand over his short cut hair on his head... then she realized he was so badly hurt that it could not be him so she jumped up and found he was not there. She went to his room and found he had died in his sleep.
In 1973 my aunt died, her only daughter moved in with us. We had to get a bigger house. My cousin was 13. The house we moved into was haunted. It was in Haltom City, Tx. The toilet in the hall bath flushed often in the middle of the night. We thought someone had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night-quite frequently-until over dinner it was discussed and we found that it was none of us! Then I was in the bathroom and heard it flush while I stood there and saw nothing happen - just the sound. We called a plumber who found nothing wrong.
Our car horns would honk in the middle of the night ... at 3:00AM every night! One car then the other. Me being a brave and skeptic 16 yr old I always ran to the cars with the keys to see why. Every time I'd get to the door of the car, the honking would stop I'd go back in the house and the other car's horn would honk! Now, I was convinced it was the rubber in the steering wheels expanding and contracting with the summer heat and the cooler temps at 3:00AM. I tried to tell my mother she was crazy there were no ghosts. Then, one day my little nephew was there. He came from the back of the house and asked my mom: "Mimi-who is that old lady in your bathroom? " We all ran in there of course no one was there. He was about 4 yrs old then - he remembers the incident to this day!
